JOE SKINNER BROADCASTING

My name is Joe Skinner and I am a play-by-play broadcaster based out of Spartanburg, South Carolina!

 

I currently am a freelance play-by-play broadcaster in the Carolinas, with work at USC Upstate, Furman University, Davidson College, and Converse University. At those schools in the 2023-24 athletics season, I worked as a play-by-play broadcaster on ESPN+ and other online streaming services for 60+ games worth of baseball, men's and women's basketball, volleyball, men's and women's soccer, women's lacrosse, and field hockey.​

I also am a host on Fox Sports Spartanburg 98.3 FM's daily afternoon-drive show Open Mic, the county's longest running talk show focusing on local sports including the University of South Carolina, Clemson, USC Upstate, the Atlanta Braves, as well as local high school football and basketball for over 20 years.

Previously, I was an athletic communications graduate assistant and play-by-play voice of 11 teams for the DII Wingate University Bulldogs in Wingate, North Carolina while also serving as the gameday contact for Wingate events on the FloSports streaming platform. At Wingate, I was the play-by-play voice of Bulldogs football, men's and women's basketball, baseball, softball, volleyball, men's and women's lacrosse, men's and women's soccer, and field hockey.

I am a graduate of Penn State University's Bellisario of College of Communications with a degree in Broadcast Journalism and a certificate from the John Curley Center for Sports Journalism in 2021, as well as a Wingate University graduate with a master's degree in sports management. My specialty is play-by-play broadcasting but I also have experience in writing, interviewing, editing, social media and reporting.
